Who doesn’t love homemade cookies? That fresh-from-the-oven aroma and the wonderful tastes and textures remind you of visits to Grandma’s house. There is a homemade gluten-free cookie recipe for every occasion.
If you are just starting out on your gluten-free journey, cookies are one of the easiest treats to make. Baking gluten-free cookies is almost like baking gluten-laden cookies, only with a couple of ingredient changes, flour and a binder. Without using a binder, those cookies are going to be quite crumbly.
You can make your own flour or buy gluten-free flour. I use Gluten-Free Mama’s Almond Blend Flour. It measures cup-for-cup to wheat flour. Don’t forget to add a binder, such as xanthan gum. Some gluten-free flour mixes already contain the binder. However, I like to add my own so I can control the quantity.
Gluten-Free Cookie Baking Tips
- Read the recipe before you start baking.
- Use quality ingredients, such as butter and real vanilla extract.
- Use the exact measurements the recipe calls for.
- Refrigerate cookie dough before baking. (I will refrigerate it anywhere from 30 minutes to overnight.)
- Let cookies “rest” after baking. After removing cookies from oven, let them sit on baking sheet for about five minutes before removing to wire rack to finish cooling.
